Push-Up Challenge
I'm completing 2,000 push-ups in 18 days (February 11-28) to raise awareness and funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association. The 2,000 push-ups represent the ~2,000 lives lost to suicide each day worldwide.
I've been working as a Psychologist for over a decade, sitting face-to-face each day with people navigating mental health challenges. The Push-Up Challenge is a unique way to raise awareness about the importance of mental well-being and show up as a support for those around us.
Being a part of and contributing to communities that have a positive impact is fulfilling. Generally speaking, when I have a chance to volunteer my time or abilities, it brings a sense of contentment. This particular event is touching on a number of my values. Contributing to the mental health community through building awareness and raising some funds reflects my value of kindness. Connection is highlighted in being a part of a larger community and taking part in the same challenge. Additionally, I am doing this with my husband, creating a unique experience of connection for us. The Push Up Challenge is also tapping into my Self-Care as it is going to be challenging me physically.
My primary purpose is to raise awareness, but if you'd like to donate, all proceeds will help the Canadian Mental Health Association support mental illness recovery and foster positive mental health in Canada. You can always donate to mental health organizations in your community; the need is everywhere. Most importantly, ensure you are taking care of your mental health and checking in with loved ones who may be struggling. Listen with compassion, and when it seems needed, ask gently but directly about suicide.
