My Core Values
As an introduction to the whole concept of this site, I’ll share my core six values identified by the Quick Look at Your Values exercise. If you haven’t already, consider checking out the activity for yourself. You can find a guide to completing this in the Your Values section.
In my first round, I went with my gut reaction and ended up with 25 “Very Important” values of the 58 on the list. I revisited that initial list a few times, narrowing down my list to what I believe matters the most to me at this particular time in my life. I considered my experiences and ways of living that make me feel most fulfilled and content and landed on the following six as my core values.
Adventure: to be adventurous, to actively seek, create or explore novel or stimulating experiences
Connection: to engage fully in whatever I am doing and being fully present with others
Freedom: to live freely; to choose how I live and behave, or help others to likewise
Kindness: to be kind, compassionate, considerate, nurturing or caring towards myself and others
Order: to be orderly and organized
Self-Care: to look after my health and well-being and get my needs met
In the coming days, I will elaborate on each value. For each, I will share my reflections on why each value is important to me and how I want to incorporate it into my life. I’m also going to share five simple ways to reflect each of those values in your everyday life.
